New York, NY. International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP has named John J. Koeppel as leader of the firm’s Investment Funds Practice. Nixon Peabody’s funds practice represents U.S. and foreign clients in the formation of their private equity funds and in negotiating their private equity investments.

“Nixon Peabody has routinely ranked as one of the top five most active law firms for U.S. private equity fund transactions,” said Philip Taub, chair of the firm’s Business and Finance Department. “John has been a key part of our private equity funds team for a number of years, and I know he enthusiastically looks forward to leading our team to continued success.”

Mr. Koeppel, working from the firm’s New York City and Buffalo offices, joined the firm in 1998. He counsels U.S. and foreign clients on fund formation matters, fund investments, and private equity transactions.

“I have the very fortunate position of leading one of the top private equity fund practices in the country,” said Mr. Koeppel. “We have an outstanding team of attorneys who work extremely hard to deliver the highest levels of quality, service, and value for all of our private equity clients. We are grateful for the opportunities that these clients have given to us, including engaging us to represent them in more than 400 private equity fund transactions last year alone. Because of all these factors, we continue to have success in growing the practice among our existing clients, as well as in developing new relationships.”

Mr. Koeppel has been recognized for exceptional standing in the legal community by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, 2009. He has also been a speaker at various programs on structuring and negotiating the terms of private equity transactions. He holds a M.B.A. and J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
