Local Leader Named Chairman of A Better City; Boston Partner Lawrence DiCara to Lead Nonprofit

Boston, MA. International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce that Lawrence S. DiCara has been named chairman of A Better City (ABC), an association of Boston’s business and institutional leaders working on policies and initiatives related to transportation, land development, and the environment.

Mr. DiCara was among the founding members of ABC under its original name, the Artery Business Committee, when it was created to represent the downtown business community during the Central Artery/Tunnel Project. His term will begin January 1, 2011.

“I’ve been with A Better City for 22 years, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead this great city-building organization as it continues its work on issues that are absolutely vital to the future economic competitiveness of Boston, the surrounding region, and the entire Commonwealth,” said Mr. DiCara.

Mr. DiCara, a former member and president of the Boston City Council, is a partner in the firm’s Real Estate & Community Development and Government Relations & Public Policy practices. He has more than 30 years of firsthand experience and knowledge with development in the state, and has represented owners and developers before the Boston Redevelopment Authority and most every other city and state agency. Mr. DiCara also has extensive experience counseling clients on legislative matters at the federal and state levels.

Mr. DiCara is also chairman of the Audit Committee of the City of Boston and is active in many other civic and charitable endeavors. He has dedicated more than 40 years to teaching government at Massachusetts Boys State/Girls State, which has recognized him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
