Important international business disputes are often resolved in international arbitration. Well-drafted arbitration clauses and experienced advocacy are important to successful results. International court litigation, whether representing a party in courts of another country or coordinating litigation in multiple countries, presents special challenges not faced by local parties in local courts.
Nixon Peabody’s Global Disputes team has represented clients in international arbitration and litigation throughout the world for many years. From disputes arising out of energy projects from Africa to India, the Middle East and Asia to South America, to telecommunications, distribution, intellectual property and other commercial ventures throughout the world, to international fraud cases spanning the globe, we’ve been there.
Our understanding of cultural differences and our multilingual staff enable us to work well with local counsel, who can play a key role in moving a case through the international arbitration and litigation process. Throughout our global offices in the U.S., London, Paris, and Shanghai, we have staff members who speak Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Chinese, French, German, Afrikaans, and other languages.
We offer a complete range of services related to arbitration, including advice on the arbitration clauses that are critical to have in contracts. The selection of the venue for arbitration, the choice of law that will apply, and the method of selecting arbitrators are only a few of the issues addressed in an arbitration clause that can impact the outcome of an arbitration.
