Sorinel Cimpoes represents clients with technology in the mechanical and electromechanical fields before the U.S. Patent Office and in federal litigation. He leverages more than 22 years of experience to help clients manage their patent portfolios and litigation.
I have prosecuted hundreds of applications in diverse technological areas, including medical devices, currency counters, electrical equipment, wagering games, microscopy systems, laser technology, etc. My approach is to attempt and interview each and every case. A personal discussion with the respective patent examiner, whether on the telephone or in person, has proven to achieve the most efficient results toward an issued patent (the general ultimate goal!).
I conduct regular conferences with clients to discuss current and future patent protection needs. I study and review my client’s business objectives to anticipate how the patent needs should develop. What is it that the client needs—a large patent portfolio for leveraging competitor portfolios or a minimal patent portfolio with focused patent protection.
I have assisted in numerous litigation cases in which I successfully applied my prosecution skills, including claim construction of medical devices, invalidity contentions related to farm equipment, infringement contentions related to voice communications, etc. While the approach of focusing on either litigation or prosecution has some advantages, I strongly believe that a great patent attorney requires both sets of skills. Heads can't exist without tails!
I’ve been working closely with clients to efficiently manage their patent and litigation needs for aligning invention conception with money making. I foresee that, on a fairly regular basis, I will continue to immerse myself with clients’ in-house brainstorming and strategy sessions to identify future needs that will ultimately make money for the client.
