- Boston Attorney Recognized For Pro Bono Efforts; Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Honors Kim Clarke for Commitment to Others
6/9/2010Boston, MA. International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce that the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights has recognized Kim M. Clarke for her outstanding pro bono service and presented her with the Pro Bono Recognition Award. Ms. Clarke serves as a member of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee and, in 2009, was a William Rodman Peabody Award recipient at the firm, devoting more than 100 hours to pro bono matters.

Mr. Hurteau has been named the recipient of the President’s Pro Bono Service Award in the Third Judicial District, while Mr. Tennant received the same honor for the Seventh Judicial District. In 2009, both attorneys each dedicated nearly 200 hours to pro bono service on a variety of matters and were instrumental in leading the pro bono efforts among colleagues in their respective offices.

12/7/2006Long Island, NY. Nixon Peabody LLP, a full-service law firm with more than six hundred attorneys nationwide, has collaborated with the in-house legal department at CA, Inc. (formerly known as Computer Associates) to win asylum on behalf of a Kenyan national who had been repeatedly persecuted in his homeland. Nixon Peabody and CA provided their services pro bono, which means the legal services they provided were for free.

Nixon Peabody LLP, one of the largest law firms in the country with strong roots in Upstate New York, has agreed to defend the Town of Hancock, pro bono, in a potential litigation concerning the Town of Hancock’s response to the extraordinary floods in June and July 2006, which was recently threatened by Friends of the Upper Delaware River. Because it believes the Town quickly and actively responded to the flooding in order to minimize the damages incurred, and because this small, rural town cannot afford legal counsel, Nixon Peabody agreed to provide legal services to the Town of Hancock on a pro bono basis, which means the legal services it provides are for free.

for the past ten years, has been named the firm’s first pro bono partner. She
will administer the firm’s expanding pro bono program, and head Nixon Peabody’s
Pro Bono Committee, which meets regularly and consists of at least one partner
from most of the firm’s sixteen offices. The appointment demonstrates the firm’s
dedication to pro bono work and its desire to give back to the community.
