“It is becoming increasingly clear that the government will be playing a pivotal role in our clients’ businesses in ways that we could not have imagined even months ago. Our clients need an understanding of the legislative and regulatory policies being considered and adopted by our government in order to chart their future business plans,” said Mr. Goldstein, partner and leader of the new Government Relations & Public Policy practice. “Tom’s track record and success in navigating the nation’s political landscape will enhance our new practice.”

Mr. Reynolds joins the firm’s Washington, DC, office along with his former chief of staff Sally Vastola. They will work with attorneys throughout the firm to advise clients on legislative and regulatory actions being pursued by Congress and the Obama administration, particularly those dictated by the current economic crisis.

“As the government becomes more involved in the day-to-day activities of companies across the board, it is more important than ever for clients to understand what is happening now and in the future and how that will impact their businesses,” said Mr. Reynolds. “Now more than ever our clients will need the expertise and guidance that Nixon Peabody attorneys and advisers can provide. I’m excited to be a part of this team and provide insight on issues ranging from tax policy to international trade to health care.”

Serving five terms, Mr. Reynolds represented the 26 th Congressional District in Upstate New York reaching from the Buffalo suburbs and extending to the western suburbs of Rochester. Mr. Reynolds was a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee and a member of three subcommittees: Trade, Select Revenue Measures, and Oversight. He was involved in drafting a number of tax and trade bills and legislation affecting affordable housing tax credits. Additionally, as chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, Mr. Reynolds was one of eight elected leaders of the House Republican Conference. Mr. Reynolds served on the House Rules Committee which provided him a thorough understanding of the legislative process and rules of the House of Representatives. He also served on the House Administration Committee. As senior strategic policy advisor, his initial portfolio and focus will include: tax policy, international trade issues, health care, financial services regulation, and energy policy.

“Decisions are being made every day in Albany, Boston, and in other state capitals as well as on Capitol Hill which impact the viability of our clients,” said Boston-based partner Lawrence S. DiCara, former president of the Boston City Council. “I look forward to working with Tom Reynolds to advocate for our clients' interests in this time of great challenge for our nation and those who govern.”
