Training & Professional Development

The greatest assets of a professional services firm are the knowledge, talent, and skills of its people. Because Nixon Peabody endeavors to provide clients with legal services that surpass their expectations, professional development and training are critical. We therefore offer a broad variety of opportunities throughout the year for those at every level to improve their career skills and enhance their knowledge of the law.

Associates

Nixon Peabody provides attorneys with a rich and diverse professional development curriculum that includes workshops, seminars, and self-study programs. Our professional skills programs strengthen associates’ abilities in areas such as presentation, negotiating, business development, legal writing, ethics, and project management. Through practice-specific training, associates can build and refine their abilities in selected areas of law. This training is offered at all levels—from basic to advanced.

The firm is certified in several states as a provider of Continuing Legal Education (CLE), a significant benefit for those who must regularly meet such requirements. We also offer access to external CLE programs and on-line learning. In addition, our professional development library includes a variety of recorded programs that are helpful in meeting CLE credit requirements.

Each year, the firm presents a comprehensive orientation program for its new attorneys, and a mentor program helps them quickly feel at home in the organization.

Professional Specialists

Nixon Peabody encourages its professional specialists to pursue educational advancement in their respective disciplines throughout their careers. We support a variety of external professional development activities and offer in-house programs designed to help professional specialists earn or renew certifications in several professional areas.

Paralegals

The complex and changing nature of the law requires that paralegals focus significant effort on continuing education. Nixon Peabody therefore encourages and supports paralegals in several aspects of professional development, from offering in-house seminars to tuition reimbursement for external academic programs endorsed by the firm. In many cases, paralegals may also enhance their professional development by participating in or monitoring the firm’s attorney-oriented training programs. These include seminars often presented by the firm's various practice groups.

Staff

Nixon Peabody strongly believes that continuing professional development is critical to the success of its individual staff members as well as the firm as a whole. Our extensive support staff provides professional services that span a wide array of disciplines. While many of the skills required to perform these roles are job-specific, others are commonly shared. Our training and development programs address learning needs in both of these important areas.

Whether you want to learn more about the firm or enhance particular work and communications skills, you will find numerous learning opportunities to help you achieve your goals. For example, our Total Client Service initiative helps staff members develop and apply communications, problem solving, and collaboration skills that support Nixon Peabody's mission of providing exceptional client service. In addition to an extensive in-house curriculum, we offer tuition reimbursement for relevant, high-quality, external learning programs. Whatever path you pursue in the field of law, our goal is to provide you with convenient opportunities to develop and expand your professional capabilities.
