January 2, 2019. Nixon Peabody partners Erica Buckley and Tatiana Gutierrez of the firm’s Affordable Housing and Real Estate practice have been recognized by Crain’s New York’s 2nd Annual “Notable Women in Law” list.

Crain’s New York’s “Notable Women in Law” list honors attorneys with standout leadership qualities measured by their successful legal practices and active involvement in and positive impact on their local communities.

Erica Buckley is the leader of Nixon Peabody’s Cooperatives & Condominiums full service practice team, representing for-sale developers, boards, lenders, and government agencies on various legal matters involving cooperatives and condominiums.  Erica was elevated to this role based on her extensive client base and knowledge of the Martin Act, serving as the former chief of the Real Estate Finance Bureau of the New York Attorney General’s office. The Martin Act is New York’s blue sky law regulating cooperatives, condominiums, and other real estate investments.

Erica’s practice spans both affordable and luxury housing, with clients ranging from the Interboro Community Land Trust—the city’s first 5-borough community land trust devoted to affordable homeownership—to SJP Properties—the developer of 200 Amsterdam Avenue, a luxury condominium tower slated for development in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Outside her legal practice, Erica is actively involved with the CUNY School of Law Foundation Board, the New York Mortgage Coalition Board, and the Habitat for Humanity NYC leadership committee, among others. Erica is also a member of the Real Estate Board of New York.

Tatiana Gutierrez represents affordable housing developers, investors, and housing authorities, among others, on preservation transactions, dispositions and Federal housing regulatory issues. She has extensive experience with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Federal Housing Administration programs. Tatiana advises developers and syndicators on affordable housing acquisitions and rehabilitations through low-income housing tax credits and tax-exempt bonds, among other various public and private financing sources.

Tatiana is passionate about diversity and women. She serves as the New York State regional lead for the firm’s Women’s Resource Group, fostering leadership qualities among female attorneys through mentorship. Tatiana has also spearheaded the firm’s “Let’s Talk” initiative—a talk series featuring dynamic and prominent women on leadership—in New York City.

Outside the workplace, Tatiana is an active member of the Young New Yorkers for the Philharmonic Benefits Committee and on the board of Women in Housing Finance. She was also previously adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center teaching a course on affordable housing.

True to their commitment to positively impacting their local communities, Erica and Tatiana serve as co-deputy managing partners at Nixon Peabody’s New York City office.
