Washington, DC. Nixon Peabody has expanded its national Health Care practice with the addition of counsel Sarah Swank, an experienced health care lawyer with in-house experience at two large health care systems.
Sarah’s nearly 20 years of experience includes time at Dignity Health, the fifth largest health system in the nation and the largest hospital provider in California, and Trinity Health, one of the largest multi-institutional Catholic health care delivery systems in the nation. She oversaw the legal department of Holy Cross Health, part of the Trinity Health system, for more than seven years and was instrumental in the formation of accountable care organizations (ACOs) across the country, including assisting with the successful application of some of the first ACOs.
“I’m excited to join a firm that not only understands and keeps up with the changing health care models, but looks at the industry in an innovative, forward-thinking way,” Sarah said.
Previously a shareholder at a nationally known law firm in Washington, DC, Sarah counsels clients on a range of strategic, regulatory, and operational issues. She advises clinically integrated networks (CINs) and ACOs in all stages of development, including application into the ACO Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). She has worked with national health systems, hospitals, and academic medical centers, as well as large national and regional physician organizations and telehealth and other startups.

Sarah is a frequent national speaker and author on the transformation of health care, pay-for-performance, health care innovation and technology, including ACOs and digital health. She is an active member in the leadership of the American Health Lawyers Association. Sarah graduated, cum laude, from Villanova University School of Law and earned her B.A., cum laude, from Skidmore College.
