Today, the Federal Housing Finance Agency made final the Housing Trust Fund rules. A copy of today’s notice can be found at: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2015-03-26/html/2015-06724.htm. On December 16, 2014 the FHFA proposed interim regulations to establish and maintain the Housing Trust Fund from funds allocated by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. These funds are to then be granted to States to increase and preserve the supply of rental housing and increase homeownership for extremely and very low income families. The Capital Magnet Fund was separately established under the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund at Treasury. This Housing Trust Fund regulation fully establishes that fund at HUD, so that it may operate under the allocations from Fannie and Freddie.
