At Nixon Peabody, we believe our differences make us stronger, and a variety of backgrounds and experiences is crucial to building a strong workplace. We strive to implement progressive practices and policies that create an environment that's increasingly diverse and inclusive.
In 2019, we took concrete steps to continue improving our diversity and inclusion efforts, and I think it's important to reflect on what we've accomplished together this year.
Working with outside organizations:
Achieved Mansfield Certification Plus status in Diversity Lab's Mansfield Rule 2.0, spotlighting our increasing diversity in equity partner promotions, firm leadership roles, and pitch opportunities.
Actively participated in the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity (LCLD). Additionally, several Nixon Peabody attorneys are alumni of the LCLD's Fellow and Pathfinder programs.
Debuted our It Gets Better video featuring Nixon Peabody attorneys and staff members sharing their experiences as LGBTQIA+ people in BigLaw.
New York City and Washington, DC hosted "Let's Talk" events inviting dynamic female leaders from a variety of industries to speak about their careers and paths to success. The "Let's Talk" series will continue in 2020, kicking-off on January 15 at Nixon Peabody San Francisco.
Continued our Diverse Scholars Program, a paid internship program that provides second- and third-year law students from diverse backgrounds with valuable BigLaw experience while they're still in school.
Fostered a culture that values collaboration and mentorship. Having mentors and allies to guide and support each other in our highstakes industry is essential—especially for young attorneys from under-represented backgrounds.
I'm incredibly proud of our firm's progress this year. As we continue to make significant strides in diversity and inclusion, I also recognize there is more work to be done. I'm excited for what the new year has in store and can't wait to kick-off 2020 with exciting updates about our diversity and inclusion journey. Stay tuned!
