Webinar: Special Briefing for Nonprofit Institutions: Retirement Plan Fee Litigation

Date: September 14, 2016

Time: 1:00–2:00 p.m. Eastern

Location: Webinar (access instructions e-mailed upon registration)

Nonprofits have become the latest target of retirement plan fee litigation. At last count, law firm Schlichter Bogard Denton filed class actions against almost a dozen universities alleging breaches of ERISA fiduciary duties, the first time the plaintiffs’ bar has targeted nonprofits. Though it’s too soon to know how these particular cases will be resolved, nonprofit institutions need to take stock of their current retirement plan practices right now.

On September 14, Nixon Peabody will present a special briefing to address the concerns this new wave of litigation presents for nonprofit institutions and what plan sponsors should do to minimize their risk of liability. Specific topics include:

  • An up-to-the-minute discussion on the rapidly changing litigation landscape
  • The best practices in which all sponsors should engage to demonstrate fiduciary responsibility
  • Considerations on how to engage board members and senior staff on this troubling topic
