South Asian Bar Association 2019 Annual Conference

Date: June 19, 2019 - June 22, 2019

Location: W Midtown, 188 14th St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30361

Nixon Peabody’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion Rekha Chiruvolu will a panelist at the South Asian Bar Association of North America 2019 annual conference, “Rise Up and Represent”:

Inclusion through Service: the Pro Bono Model of Leadership Development

South Asian lawyers appear to have a lower level of service on non-profit boards and in community leadership positions compared to other populations. Because of our profession's unique knowledge and skills, board service and community leadership are important ways to give back. Moreover, both offer an opportunity for our own personal and professional growth. Firms and in-house law departments look to civic engagement and leadership when making partner decisions and as part of overall professional development. Additionally, we owe it to our own community to provide an articulate, South Asian voice to the organizations active in our cities and towns. Our panelists will talk about the benefits of serving on boards, running for public office, working pro bono cases and other community service. It is possible to combine career development while doing good, and we'll talk about how. Moderator Monica Khant, Executive Director at Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network, will be joined by panelists Chintan Amin, Senior Counsel at Bayer U.S.; Hon. Neeti Pawar, Colorado Court of Appeals Judge; Rekha Chiruvolu, Diversity and Inclusion Director at Nixon Peabody; and Gauri Punjabi, Associate at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.
