Long Island, NY. Nixon Peabody is expanding its Labor & Employment practice in Long Island with the arrival of new partner Jeffery A. Meyer, whose practice encompasses a wide range of labor & employment matters, from traditional labor law to wage-and-hour law.

Bringing extensive litigation experience, Jeff has defended employers before various state and federal courts, as well as many federal, state and local administrative agencies with matters relating to wage-and-hour collective and class actions, discrimination, retaliation and ERISA. He frequently appears before the National Labor Relations Board representing employers in matters related to union organizing and collective bargaining. Jeff also spends a substantial amount of time at both the United States Department of Labor and New York State Department of Labor defending clients faced with agency audits and investigations.

“Our clients will benefit from Jeff’s strong litigation experience before federal and state courts and agencies,” said Eric Paley, leader of Nixon Peabody’s Labor & Employment practice. “Jeff delivers efficient and cost-effective defense strategies aligned with our clients’ business objectives, and he’ll be a great addition to our national labor and employment practice.”

Beyond the courtroom, Jeff counsels corporate clients with day-to-day labor policy and wage-and-hour compliance. Jeff has worked across a diverse portfolio of industries, with particular focus in the hospitality sector, where he regularly works with restaurants, catering halls and food service companies. Prior to his work in the management realm, Jeff has past experience at the National Football League Players Association, where he was involved with player agent regulations including salary cap issues, non-injury grievance procedure and collective bargaining.

“Jeff will be a great complement to the labor work we do out of our Long Island office. He diversifies our labor practice given his wage-and-hour and class action experience,” said Allan H. Cohen, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Long Island office. “Jeff is as sharp in the courtroom as he is personable with clients, and we’re excited to have him join our team.”

Joining Nixon Peabody from Kaufman Dolowich & Voluck, LLP, Jeff graduated from St. John’s University School of Law and earned a B.S.B.A. in Business Management from Bucknell University. Outside of the office, Jeff sits on the advisory boards of Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater New York and the Viscardi Center.
