Boston, MA. Nixon Peabody is proud to announce that it has affirmed its commitment to diversity and inclusion by achieving Mansfield Certification Plus, signifying that the pool of candidates considered for leadership and management positions, equity partner promotions and lateral roles are 30% women and attorneys of color.

Of the 41 law firms selected for Mansfield Certification, Nixon Peabody was one of 27 firms that earned the “Plus” recognition for having minority representation at least 30% in the majority of its current governance committees and leadership roles.

“Diversity and inclusion lives at the core of our firm’s culture and it’s a priority in our strategic plan,” said Andrew Glincher, Nixon Peabody CEO and managing partner. “Celebrating our differences has always been a key element in how we’ve advised clients to navigate the constantly changing legal and business landscape.”

The Mansfield Certification Plus builds upon Nixon Peabody’s long-standing commitment to diversity and inclusion, whose management committee comprises approximately 30% women. Furthermore, for 12 consecutive years, Nixon Peabody has also earned a 100% rating by the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.

Mansfield Certification Plus pays tribute to Arabella Mansfield—the first woman admitted in the United States to practice law—and was inspired by the NFL’s Rooney Rule, which saw minority representation in head-coach roles double in the years after its implementation.

“We’re incredibly proud of the strides we’re making in diversity and inclusion,” said Nixon Peabody Director of Diversity & Inclusion Rekha Chiruvolu. “We look forward to continue partnering with Diversity Lab to increase minority representation not just at Nixon Peabody but across the legal industry.”

The certification comes one year after Diversity Lab, an incubator of innovative ideas to increase diversity and inclusion in the legal industry, launched the inaugural pilot.
