Nixon Peabody advises Barron’s Educational Series in the sale of its test prep and study guide brands to Kaplan, Inc.

Long Island, NY. Nixon Peabody advised Barron’s Educational Series (Barron’s), a leading publisher of test prep and study guides based in Hauppauge, in its sale of over 650 titles to Kaplan, Inc. (Kaplan).

Barron’s is a leading provider of test prep materials for the New York State Regents. The sale of its test prep and study guides division includes dictionaries, academic test preparation and advanced placement, regents, foreign language, English language, business, science, literature, law and math study guides, school directories and college guides, and business reference guides. Barron’s has also sold its brand name to Kaplan.

Barron’s will continue to operate its Active Interest Titles division, which includes children’s, pets, hobbies, cooking, film, philosophy, sports, art and special interest titles. The division will operate under the new name B.E.S. Publishing in Hauppauge.

Nixon Peabody’s deal team was led by corporate partner Allan Cohen and included labor and employment partner Jeffery Meyer, intellectual property associate Lauren Arnold, and corporate associates Jason Chimon and Meghan Hopkins.
