Ed Clancy is a health care lawyer with experience representing a wide range of providers, including senior living facilities, dialysis centers, hospitals, critical access hospitals, DME suppliers, compounding pharmacies and health agencies, as well as health care professionals in licensure actions.
Drawing on my experience as a former litigation attorney with the Illinois Department of Public Health, I represent health care providers in administrative proceedings and civil actions that the Department and other state and federal agencies bring against their licenses. Recently, I successfully stopped the Department from revoking a facility’s license after discovering that it acted illegally in its actions against the facility. I also represent health care providers in strategic and operational matters, such as expansion, compliance, and reimbursement. This includes transactions, contracts, administrative and regulatory (including Life Safety Code) compliance, survey and certification responses, audits and overpayments, certificates of need, acquisitions, tax exemption, and fair housing. It is particularly rewarding to save facilities hundreds of thousands of dollars in their efforts to address Life Safety Code deficiencies, by developing cost-effective plans and strategies to correct deficiencies and comply with the code.
Health care providers face daunting challenges maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, and managing their business transactions. Outside counsel must understand the providers’ compliance and business needs, and be vigilant about efficiently and effectively assisting them in meeting those needs.
