With more than 30 years of experience, Peter Durant is a trusted advisor to clients seeking to exploit their intellectual property and other business assets.
Today I focus on two areas: IP-related business transactions and privacy.
I have represented many clients, ranging from startups to major cancer research centers, in their efforts to license their technologies. I also have represented inventors and universities in the “monetization” of their rights in income streams tied to IP assets. In addition, I work with clients who team or otherwise work with partners to jointly develop technology or to provide services for third parties.
I also work with clients to ensure that their and third-party data are properly protected in business transactions. This includes responding to data breaches; risks assumed in new transactions, e.g., cloud computing; and dealing with the interplay of multiple jurisdictions, e.g., the United States and Europe, on privacy-related matters.
Currently, I'm watching the fallout from the Snowden leaks on the tension between privacy and transparency and the conflict in several circuits on “no-challenge” clauses in license agreements.
