Mary M. Paul is Senior Planner and Director of Tax Administration in the Rochester Private Clients Group. Her areas of concentration include financial planning, individual income tax planning and individual income tax compliance.
My practice is completely driven by clients’ individual needs: determining their requirements today and anticipating upcoming needs to ensure they are prepared for the future. The foundation to my practice is the series of annual deadlines imposed by the IRS and other taxing authorities. I ensure sure that clients are aware of their income tax filing obligations, the filing due dates and the associated payments required. At the same time, I incorporate income tax planning to insure that my clients are fully compliant with their filing obligations while maximizing their cash flow positions.
While income tax obligations are the backbone to my practice, I also focus on financial planning for all stages of my clients’ lives. Marriages bring about mortgage evaluations, the birth of children cues discussions of educational funding analyses and years of employment give rise to retirement planning projections.
But because my practice is driven by clients’ individual needs, I am also called upon to assist with all types of financial decisions. I have prepared analyses to determine the best age for a client to apply for Social Security benefits. I supported a client by researching the history of a property tax credit as it pertained to her home, completed the application and successfully obtained the credit. I am fortunate in that I am able to participate in all financial aspects of my clients’ lives.
I have been following the reality of Health Care Exchanges and the opportunities they present to my self-employed and retired clients. We’re developing strategies for clients to find the right fit for their incomes and life stages, while keeping costs to a minimum.
