Teresa A. Ptashka, Ph.D.

Dr. Teresa Ptashka is a patent agent with more than 10 years of experience in patent prosecution of early stage innovations in biology. She works with clients to obtain protection for their inventions and to provide intellectual property that is highly valued by investors.

What do you focus on?

I specialize in obtaining meaningful protection for early stage innovations in the U.S. and around the world. I work with clients and inventors to obtain protection for their technologies while also listening and taking into account where they think it will evolve in the coming years.

My technical experience spans the following areas: the microbiome, CRISPR/Cas genome editing, stem cells, tissue-specific progenitor cells, tissue engineering, drug treatments, repurposed drugs and modulation of cellular signaling or metabolic pathways.

What do you see on the horizon?

The patent eligibility of natural products continues to be an issue, however newer U.S. PTO guidelines and recent patent allowances provide further insight into successful prosecution strategies for obtaining protection around natural products and their uses.

Representative Matters

  • Currently prosecuting a portfolio of microbiome cases for the treatment of food allergy and inflammation.
  • Drafted and prosecuting applications relating to probiotics for use in humans.
  • Prosecuted patent portfolios relating to novel treatments for depression, anxiety, cancer and neurodegenerative disease.
