Sarah is an associate in Nixon Peabody’s Private Clients group. She focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning, tax planning and estate and trust administration.
I work with clients to develop sophisticated estate plans tailored to the planning and wealth transfer goals of individuals and families. This planning includes the drafting of wills, durable powers of attorney, health care proxies, revocable trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts and gifting trusts. Each estate plan is implemented with a view toward passing assets according to clients’ unique wishes, eliminating or reducing estate taxes and avoiding probate.
I also assist fiduciaries with estate and trust administration, which includes guiding appointed personal representatives through the probate process and advising trustees on the management and distribution of trust assets.
There are often proposed legislative changes, revisions to the tax code and new case law that can alter the effectiveness of estate planning techniques. Therefore, I see a need for flexible estate plans that are designed to achieve clients’ planning goals under existing law, but can also easily adapt to meet the same goals upon new legal developments. Additionally, Massachusetts is currently considering whether to adopt the Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act (RUFADAA), which I will be keeping abreast of in order to best advise clients and fiduciaries regarding digital assets.
