James Smith is a paralegal in the Public Finance team. He assists attorneys with various types of public finance transactions involving cultural institutions, nonprofit institutions, higher education, assisted living facilities, housing and transportation facilities. James assists with drafting documents, review of due diligence materials and preparation and attendance at closing. He interacts with clients on a daily basis to provide information related to ongoing transactions and assists in the preparation of public notice materials and resolutions for various meeting agendas.
I work closely with attorneys when assisting with straight-lease and municipal bond transactions. I am responsible for drafting all transaction documents, ensuring deadlines are met and preparing each transaction for closing. I primarily focus on straight-lease transactions involving Industrial Development Agencies, which provide incentives to businesses to improve and increase their respective municipalities’ economy.
I am interested in seeing how these transactions will change with the laws and how evolving technology will change the transaction processes as we move toward a more electronic (paperless) world.
