Robert B. Yoshitomi

Bob Yoshitomi advises clients about international trade and transportation regulation and related commercial matters. He is the principal legal advisor to several large and medium-sized companies, domestic and foreign, doing business throughout the United States.

What do you focus on?

I advise about business strategies, mergers, acquisitions and other reorganizations, government and customer relations, and regulatory compliance, and I have been doing so for over thirty years. Here are three examples of currently active areas:

  1. Antitrust compliance, including legally safe interactions with competitors in markets with decreasing participants and employing when available express and implied exemptions from the antitrust laws.
  2. Synchronizing commercial agreements with regulatory compliance, as the agreements are often filed with a supervising government agency, and even if not filed the agreements must satisfy regulatory standards.
  3. Legal audits to confirm the enterprise is in compliance.

What do you see on the horizon?

I see increasing complexity in government regulation, often with jurisdiction by multiple agencies, sometimes in conflict with each other. As in any mature and competitive market, there are opportunities for the clever and nimble.
