Senior Equity Analyst / Portfolio Manager
Christine Tshudy is a senior equity analyst and portfolio manager for Nixon Peabody’s Private Clients group. She manages portfolios for trusts and private clients while supporting the broad effort to manage the firm’s $1.5 billion in assets under management. This involves a range of activities from constructing multi-asset class portfolios and setting portfolio asset allocation, to selecting mutual fund managers / strategies. She reports to the chief investment officer.
Originally from Japan, I have more than 20 years of global investment experience, serving both institutional and individual clients. I bring a mix of technical and industry knowledge, am skilled in equity valuation and security research, and experienced in economic analysis. I bring a pragmatic approach to the NP investment process. Prior to joining NP in 2005, my professional experiences include Daiwa Asset Management in NYC, Greentree Capital Management and Maplestar Capital, both in Rochester, NY.
I focus on three main areas: (1) asset allocation research/portfolio strategies, (2) portfolio/wealth management, and (3) investment research/analysis.
As an active member of a small dynamic investment group, I participate in the key investment decision-making process. I perform a wide range of investment research from economy and market analysis to asset allocation to security and asset class research. I support and apply a robust asset allocation approach, and construct a broadly diversified portfolio that is optimized for the expected risk-adjusted returns.
I manage a wide range of client portfolios: trusts set up by attorneys at NP’s Private Clients group and other individual and trust accounts at the Nixon Peabody Trust Company. I guide clients to establish appropriate investment objectives and portfolio asset allocation based on their constraints.
I exercise diligence and independence in analyzing a range of investments, from individual stocks and bonds, to mutual funds and ETFs. I select and monitor individual stocks in the areas of the energy, industrial and financial sectors in the U.S. market. In addition, I provide as needed due diligence in evaluating new private alternative investments. In the future, I anticipate the increased use of liquid alternative investments in the marketplace, as appropriate risk measures are developed and other data issues are addressed.
Over the years, I have seen cycles of fear and greed permeate areas within the financial markets. I anticipate market volatility to pick up as global monetary policies diverge, affecting foreign currencies, global bond yields and stock markets. I advise my clients to stick to a disciplined approach that will emphasize diversification and a long-term focus, and to focus on the things they can control.
