Justin S. Smith

Justin Smith is a department attorney with Nixon Peabody’s Complex Commercial Disputes practice group. He represents corporations and individuals in a wide variety of matters.

What do you focus on?

I focus my practice on commercial disputes in state and federal courts, representing clients in a diverse range of industries. I assist with all phases of litigation matters including discovery, analysis of legal issues, and drafting motions.

What do you see on the horizon?

I am following the developing trends in utilizing technology within the legal profession. As technology continues to alter the litigation landscape, it will be important to adapt and implement cost-effective and secure technological innovations into everyday practice to maximize efficiency and accuracy, as well as to improve client engagement and visibility.

Prior Experience

Most recently, Justin was a law clerk for the Rhode Island Supreme Court Law Clerk Department, and clerked for the Honorable Brian P. Stern on the Providence County Business Calendar. Additionally, Justin served as a teaching associate for “Introduction to U.S. Law and the Way Lawyers Think” at Brown University’s Pre-College Program.

While in law school, Justin served as an intern to Chief Justice Paul A. Suttell of the Rhode Island Supreme Court. Justin also was a legal intern at NP in 2017–18.
