Boston, MA. Nixon Peabody LLP has hired longtime in-house legal leader William Connolly as the law firm’s next General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer.
Bill arrives at Nixon Peabody with more than 25 years of in-house and law firm experience, helping organizations navigate complex legal and business risks. He is based in the firm’s Boston office.
Prior to joining Nixon Peabody, Bill was head of litigation at State Street Bank and Trust Company, where he built a successful and respected team. Most recently, Bill was General Counsel at Salary.com, a fast-growing data and software firm that helps employers manage compensation programs.
Bill is well versed in the legal risks and opportunities facing companies, and his experience dovetails with Nixon Peabody’s wide range of practices and full-service legal offerings.
“Bill’s proactive approach to risk management will help ensure we provide clients with the highest quality service to achieve their goals,” said Nixon Peabody CEO and Managing Partner Stephen Zubiago. “As we evolve our Office of General Counsel to support current and future needs of the firm, Bill’s diverse range of experience is a significant asset.”
Having begun his legal career at a Nixon Peabody predecessor firm—Hutchins, Wheeler & Dittmar—Bill has returned to his roots. He received his JD from Boston University School of Law and his BA from Amherst College. He is an active member of his community and serves as president of the board of directors for Greater Boston Legal Services, which provides free legal assistance to low-income families.
