We had a super interesting conversation during our recent Nixon Peabody webinar—Vaccinating the Nation: What You Need to Know—discussing the current state of vaccinations for COVID-19, employment aspects of vaccination, and how vaccination status will impact students, customers, vendors, and guests.
COVID-19 vaccine rollout in the U.S. started slowly—but it’s ramping up. The increased availability of vaccines is going to require business leaders to make real choices about your own vaccination strategy. During the session, we learned that employers can require employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccine; however, there are still some liability risks. Employers can also put in programs to incentivize vaccination by employees; but, thereto, restrictions exist. Also, if your workforce is unionized, there are special circumstances to consider. We also learned the four (4) key principles to consider as you contemplate vaccination mandates for customers, vendors, or guests. Plus, we looked at schools as a special example regarding vaccination requirements.
While we learned a lot, there are still many unanswered questions, like—What will a possible COVID-19 vaccination passport look like? It sounds like we’ll need to offer another session to update our clients and connections on this topic in a few weeks.
