Ethan Domsten is an associate in the Health Care group. He represents health care providers and not-for-profit entities in various transactional and regulatory matters.
I work with hospitals, physician groups and other health care providers in a variety of transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. I also advise clients in the health care industry on regulatory compliance matters and navigating the federal and state fraud and abuse laws. I also work on Medicare and Medicaid compliance, including self-disclosures.
I assist not-for-profit clients with receiving and maintaining exemptions from local, state and federal taxation. In the tax-exempt space, I also help clients avoid unrelated business income taxation and other excise taxes.
The role of data analytics in the health care industry will continue to expand. This will allow providers to join together and fundamentally alter how health care is delivered and paid for in this country. At the same time, government auditors will continue to increase their use of data and technology to identify and target potential fraud and non-compliance. Outside counsel must understand the providers’ business and compliance needs, and be vigilant about helping them adapt to meet those needs.
