Dana Roper

Dana Roper is an associate in Nixon Peabody’s Affordable Housing practice group. Dana represents nonprofit and for-profit owners in developing and preserving affordable housing with a focus on multifamily and senior housing.

What do you focus on?

I handle various aspects of affordable housing transactions, from drafting corporate formation documents, to performing title review, due diligence and other services. My experience as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) gives me substantial knowledge and understanding of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) insurance programs, specifically Sections 207 and 232. Much of my work involved closing multifamily and nursing home refinances under these programs.

I also have experience in a variety of other HUD areas including prepayment, refinance and transfer of HUD loans; Section 202 direct loan transactions; and public housing regulatory compliance. As an example, I represented HUD in a sales transaction involving the assumption of a troubled construction loan ultimately ensuring project stabilization.

What do you see on the horizon?

I am looking ahead for changes to affordable housing programs as federal, state and local entities adjust to widespread funding cuts. I look forward to working with clients in finding creative methods to continue to develop affordable housing.
