On May 11, 2023, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced availability of funding under its Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP). There is authority for up to $4.8375 billion in grant and below-market loan funding for HUD-assisted properties that owners may utilize as they modernize their projects to become more climate friendly and to protect against extreme weather events. HUD intends to allocate roughly the first $2 billion through the Notices of Funding Opportunity released on May 11.
Owners receiving HUD rental assistance under Multifamily Section 8 project-based rental assistance, Section 202 Supportive Housing for Low-Income Elderly, Section 811 Supportive Housing for Low-Income Persons with Disabilities, and 236 Interest Reduction Payments are eligible to apply.
