I'm pleased to announce Nixon Peabody project finance and public finance partner, Barry Carrigan, has been selected as one of The Bond Buyer’s 2020 Rising Stars. The goal of this program is to identify municipal finance professionals under the age of 40, who have demonstrated leadership skills, are excellent collaborators, have displayed innovation and creativity in approaching their jobs, and have made positive contributions to the community.
During his career, Barry has been involved in some of the most groundbreaking and complex deals, including serving as counsel to the bidding agent, underwriter, and settlement agent for the Federal Reserve’s $500 billion Municipal Liquidity Facility program, and the issuance of $1.2 billion of non-investment grade, tax-exempt bonds, which was the largest such financing in the tax-exempt market in U.S. history. In addition to his groundbreaking deal work, Barry contributes to his community and has volunteered with various nonprofit organizations, including Harbor House of Rochester, ROCovery Fitness, Inc., Foodlink, and the Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network.
Bill Weir, nominator, had the following to say:
“I have had the great pleasure and privilege of calling Barry a friend and colleague for many years. I have seen first-hand how tirelessly he works on behalf of his clients and to make a positive impact in his community. Barry truly is one of the brightest young minds in the municipal finance industry and is worthy of The Bond Buyer’s 2020 Rising Stars recognition.”
A few quotes offered by his Nixon Peabody mentees include:
“Barry is a great mentor who is never too busy to answer a question or share a teachable moment. Though he enjoys being a teacher, he also leads with his actions, and my career in Nixon Peabody’s Public Finance group has benefitted greatly from having his example to follow.” —Terance Walsh
“Barry is a great friend, colleague, and mentor, and a person I regularly seek out for advice to review an opinion, to ask questions about tax-exempt bonds, and how to navigate things internally at the firm. He is one of my colleagues that made my move to NP really easy and seamless, and his guidance over the years has helped me grow and develop as an attorney.” —Matthew Carrigg
Congratulations to Barry on this outstanding honor.
