We recently hosted our inaugural NP Impact Week of Service. I could not be more proud of our firm’s collective efforts to give back and strengthen our communities. Together, more than 500 colleagues across our different offices participated in service projects or engaged in virtual pro bono opportunities, all aimed at supporting people and places in need.
Throughout the week, NP attorneys and staff worked alongside members of local organizations to advance various causes throughout our communities. A few of our many pro bono and service projects included:
- Counseling low-income entrepreneurs with JustCause
- Partnered with Legal Aid Chicago to provide brief legal advice to patients of Erie Family Health Centers—a longtime client of NP and full-service community health center servicing the Chicago metro area
- Teamed up with several organizations across the country to collect donations and package care kits for people in need
- Joined Washington, DC’s Rock Creek Conservancy to remove invasive plant species and clean up the parklands
- Partnered with San Francisco’s Jewish Vocational Services to host mock interviews for neighbors seeking employment
Our work directly benefited the organizations we partnered with and the populations they serve. One student, who participated in our New York City office’s college essay workshop for underserved high school seniors, expressed her gratitude for our firm’s support:
“Shout-out to the entire Nixon Peabody team for being here and present, helping out students. It’s extremely helpful and incredible that you guys opened your doors for us.”
NP Impact Week of Service aligns with our firmwide Social Impact Strategy, through which we pool our time, resources, and talent to maximize the positive impact we’re creating in our communities. Our social impact plan encompasses a broad range of coordinated efforts that empower people in need, including pro bono services (of which we performed more than 23,000 hours last year alone), board memberships, charitable giving, volunteering, and impact lawyering. It capitalizes on the vibrant culture of service and camaraderie that has long defined NP.
It has been wonderful to watch our colleagues come together and make a meaningful difference through our volunteer work. We look forward to building on our community partner relationships and our social impact efforts in the months to come.
