Introduction
Michal Cantor is a member of Nixon Peabody’s Healthcare practice and State Attorneys General team. She represents individuals and entities facing government investigations and also guides clients through regulatory compliance issues, particularly in the healthcare space. A subset of Michal’s practice is focused on conducting investigations of abuse of children and vulnerable individuals.

I represent clients through all stages of criminal and civil government investigations and related litigation. I have also conducted external, independent investigations on behalf of government agencies and institutional clients. Additionally, my practice encompasses internal and regulatory investigations, risk mitigation, and compliance matters in healthcare and other industries.
Compliance and Regulatory Healthcare
I help hospital systems and providers navigate the ever-changing regulatory landscape on the federal, state, and local levels. This includes advising clients on compliance with Medicare and Medicaid. I also have experience assisting hospital clients with medical staff issues and advising academic medical centers on graduate medical education issues.
Abuse Claims
For institutional clients, I conduct external investigations of sexual abuse allegations, and I advise the clients in connection with the results of those investigations. I liaise with law enforcement with respect to ongoing investigations, and I also defend clients against Child Victims Act and Adult Survivors Act lawsuits. A portion of my practice is dedicated to representing victims who are coming forward to report their mistreatment. This includes pursuing litigation on their behalf and helping them navigate victims’ compensation programs.
Looking ahead
There appears to be no slowing of government investigations and actions stemming from alleged pandemic-related fraud, including against medical providers, and I expect this trend to continue. I also anticipate a rise in opioid-related prosecutions at the state and federal level, against both dispensers and providers.
