Introduction
Kaitlyn B. Greene is counsel in Nixon Peabody’s Private Clients group. Kaitlyn focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning, tax planning and estate and trust administration.
My focus
I help successful individuals, business owners, and families develop sophisticated estate plans designed to advance their unique needs, values, and long-term objectives and leverage tax minimization opportunities. In this work, I counsel clients on a full range of wealth transfer techniques and draft the necessary instruments to address their needs, such as wills, durable powers of attorney, healthcare proxies, revocable trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts and gifting trusts.
I also assist individual and corporate fiduciaries with estate and trust administration, which includes guiding clients and appointed representatives through the probate process.
Looking ahead
With the federal estate and gift tax exemptions currently at record high levels, I see a greater emphasis on the need for income tax aware planning. In addition, for many clients state-level estate tax regimes remain a central planning consideration, as many jurisdictions have thresholds that differ from the federal exemption and rules that diverge on portability and lifetime gifting.
Against that backdrop, the tax landscape is ever-evolving. Frequent changes to legislation, case law, and the tax code can significantly impact the effectiveness of various estate planning techniques. Through flexible drafting and periodic reviews, my goal is to keep clients’ plans aligned with their original objectives while remaining resilient to ongoing legal and tax developments.
