My focus

My practice focuses on intellectual property, including trademark and copyright matters. My experience encompasses all stages of trademark prosecution, including developing application filing strategies, responding to office actions, and organizing post-registration maintenance filings, both nationally and globally. I also assist clients with brand management by conducting preliminary and comprehensive searches for trademark availability, monitoring the use of potentially confusing marks, and taking enforcement or defensive measures when necessary to protect the client’s intellectual property.

In addition to my counseling experience, I handle litigation matters. I draw upon my technical background in chemical engineering to advise high-tech clients in various phases of litigation, including legal research, drafting motions, resolving discovery disputes, and managing document production. My experience includes Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) opposition and cancellation proceedings, Copyright Claims Board (CCB) proceedings, International Trade Commission (ITC) proceedings, and federal court patent, trademark, and trade secret infringement proceedings.

Looking ahead

As businesses and organizations expand and adopt increasingly innovative marketing and branding strategies, the frequency of non-traditional trademark applications, such as color schemes, sounds, and scents, has been on the rise. The development of effective strategies for the registration and enforcement of these non-traditional marks will be essential for ensuring the protection of intellectual property in the evolving business landscape.
