Julia is an associate in Nixon Peabody’s Affordable Housing Practice group. She represents clients including market-rate and affordable housing developers, cooperative housing corporations, condominiums and homeowners associations.
I help developer clients navigate various legal issues related to new construction developments, including construction and financing matters. I also represent individual real estate buyers and sellers in connection with acquisitions, real property transfers and associated estate matters.
In addition to representing developers, I work with cooperative and condominium boards on a range of corporate matters, with a particular emphasis on affordable projects such as Housing Development Fund Corporation (HDFC) and Mitchell-Lama cooperatives. These can include a detailed review and analysis of governing documents, leading board and shareholder/unit owner special and annual meetings and managing transactional aspects, such as the drafting of corporate documents.
With New York City introducing programs to promote, create and maintain affordable housing and the housing market remaining stable, I see for-sale housing remaining a priority for many developers who will utilize these programs to develop new affordable housing. I look forward to helping both nonprofit and for-profit developers with these projects. Additionally, as many HDFC cooperatives will soon need to decide what is next for them when their original resale restrictions expire, my experience working with cooperative boards makes me ideally positioned to assist them through this process.
