San Francisco, CA. For the second time in row, Nixon Peabody client, Quanta Computer Incorporated, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of electronic hardware, has been named to Derwent’s “Top 100 Global Innovators” list. Quanta is one of only four companies in Taiwan to receive this recognition.
Derwent, a Clarivate Analytics company, is a global intellectual property analytics provider. “Our analysis of the top of the global innovation ecosystem points to a tougher environment than ever before,” according to Derwent’s 2020 report. “Innovators are having to invest more, involve more people, review more data, watch more competitors and protect ideas more wisely. The need for clarity in innovation is urgent.”
Quanta was recognized because it has exceled in all four of Derwent’s selection criteria for the Top 100: (1) volume of patent filings; (2) number of citations; (3) ratio of applications filed to patents granted; and (4) proportion of filings in the four key markets of China, Europe, Japan, and the United States.
“My criteria for success at Quanta have always included having a strong portfolio of patents,” said Mike Yang, SVP of Quanta Computer and President of Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT). Quanta has evolved from a local OEM to a global OEM in the early 2000s. Under Yang’s leadership, QCT, which was developed from the cloud business unit of Quanta, expanded to a global solution provider that integrates hyperscale hardware with infrastructure software to fulfill 5G and AI workloads for cloud service providers, telecoms, and enterprises of various scales. “As a global enabler of various innovative technologies, we are committed to continually strengthening and expanding our patent assets and protecting our partners.”
“We’ve been collaborating with Mike Yang and Quanta since 2013,” said On Lu, an intellectual property partner in Nixon Peabody’s San Francisco office. “Year after year, we are continually impressed with the breadth and depth of Quanta’s culture of innovation and drive to excel. They’re truly deserving of Derwent’s honor.”
With Quanta's inclusion in the Top 100, Taiwan leads South Korea and China in the number of companies named to the list.
