Washington, DC. Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce that counsel Chaundi Randolph has been elected to the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association’s (ABA’s) Forum on Affordable Housing & Community Development Law.

Chaundi, whose two-year term began at the close of the ABA’s annual meeting in August, has had a long history of service to the Forum. Among these initiatives, he has assisted in facilitating the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD’s) involvement in both Forum programming and publications and has liaised on behalf of the Forum on administrative concerns with the agency over the years.

As a member of the Forum’s Governing Committee, Chaundi will concentrate on future relations with both HUD and other government agencies, mentoring young and diverse lawyers, practice committee participation, and the development of educational programs and content.

At Nixon Peabody, Chaundi focuses his practice on affordable housing regulatory and transactional matters that span the spectrum of affordable housing development and operation. He assists for-profit developers, nonprofit developers, and public housing authorities nationally on regulatory and transactional matters involving multifamily affordable housing ownership, development, financing, rehabilitation, and preservation. This includes advising affordable housing owners and operators on Section 8 matters and navigating HUD’s waiver and regulatory processes.

Chaundi spent 12 years at HUD before joining Nixon Peabody’s Affordable Housing and Real Estate practice. During his tenure at HUD, he was the lead attorney for the Public Housing Mixed Finance, Multifamily Section 202 elderly, and Section 811 disabled housing programs. Additionally, he provided counsel in various other areas, including Choice Neighborhoods, Public Housing Finance (Capital Fund and Operating Fund), and Energy Performance Contracting. Chaundi negotiated and closed nearly 300 public housing and other various affordable housing transactions, advised agency principals on complex asset repositioning issues involving Section 8 administration and tax credit financing, and advised on demonstration and program development (RAD and RAD for PRAC, among others). He also assisted in drafting applicable statutes, regulations, handbooks, agency notices, notices of funding availability, and legal opinions for many of these programs.

Chaundi earned his Master of Laws degree in Real Property Development from the University of Miami School of Law, his JD from Florida A&M University College of Law, and his BS from Florida A&M University.
