COVID 19 travel restrictions now include India

Presidential proclamation issued suspending travel from India due to COVID-19

Although more and more individuals are receiving the vaccine daily, COVID-19 cases are still on the rise in many parts of the world and the U.S. continues to limit travel from many countries, including all of the Schengen countries, the UK, Ireland, China, Iran, South Africa, and Brazil. The Biden administration has continued many of these COVID-19-related travel restrictions from the Trump administration. The most recent country to be added to the list is India. After reviewing the public health situation in India, the CDC concluded that proactive measures are required to protect the gains the U.S. has made in recent months fighting COVID-19.

On April 30, 2021, President Biden signed a proclamation suspending entry into the U.S. of certain immigrant and non-immigrant travelers who were physically present in the Republic of India during the 14-day period prior to their attempted entry to the U.S.

Most notably this proclamation does not apply to: any lawful permanent resident of the U.S.; any noncitizen national of the U.S.; any noncitizen who is the spouse of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; any noncitizen who is the parent or legal guardian of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, provided that the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident is unmarried and under the age of 21; any noncitizen who is the sibling of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, provided that both are unmarried and under the age of 21; any noncitizen who is a member of the U.S. Armed Forces or who is a spouse or child of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces; any noncitizen whose entry would further important U.S. law enforcement objectives, as determined by the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or their respective designees, based on a recommendation of the Attorney General or his designee; or any noncitizen whose entry would be in the national interest, as determined by the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or their designees.

COVID-19 travel restrictions are rapidly evolving, and travelers should be sure to check the latest travel restrictions before planning any international travel.
