In today’s fast-paced digital world, cybersecurity and privacy challenges are evolving at lightning speed. We sat down with Jenny Holmes, Deputy Leader of the Cybersecurity & Privacy practice, to learn how she leads her team through uncertainty, fosters a unique culture—and why building MAGNA-TILE towers with her kids might just be the secret to her leadership style.
Describe your leadership philosophy when guiding your practice group.
I’ve always believed that strong professional relationships start with genuine personal connection. I make it a point to get to know my colleagues as people first—what drives them, what they enjoy outside of work, what makes them tick. When we understand each other on a human level, it becomes much easier to collaborate, communicate, and support one another professionally. That foundation of trust and empathy creates a more cohesive, resilient team.
What concerns or questions are you hearing most often from clients right now?
Right now, clients are navigating a lot of uncertainty—especially around the growing regulatory scrutiny of consumer data. They’re doing their best to stay compliant, but the rules are evolving quickly, and there are still many gray areas. At the same time, the threat landscape is becoming more sophisticated. With AI tools becoming more accessible, we’re seeing threat actors use them to craft incredibly convincing phishing and spoofing emails. It’s making traditional training methods less effective, and clients are understandably concerned about how to keep their teams—and their data—safe.
How do you ensure your practice group remains adaptable and resilient in an evolving landscape?
Honestly, adaptability isn’t optional in our field—it’s essential. Our work is deeply tied to emerging technologies and shifting legal frameworks, so staying flexible and open to change is part of our DNA. We prioritize continuous learning, share insights across specialties, and encourage each other to stay curious. If we’re not evolving, we’re falling behind.
Tell us about the culture in your practice group. What makes your team special?
What makes our team truly unique is the diversity of our practice areas. We have attorneys focused on everything from data breaches to art law, trade secrets, licensing, and beyond. On paper, it might seem like a patchwork—but in practice, it’s a strength. We bring different perspectives to the table, and we’re intentional about supporting each other’s specialties. That collaborative spirit allows us to offer clients a more holistic approach.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self?
Calm down. It will all be okay.
I’d remind myself that not everything has to be figured out at once, and that growth comes with time, experience, and a little grace.
When you’re not at work, where would we find you?
Most likely, I’m with my husband and our two kids, Henry (4) and Sadie (10 months). We’re usually building MAGNA-TILE towers, soaking up the rare sunny days Rochester gives us, or out walking our golden retriever, Taffy. Those moments help me recharge and keep perspective—you can’t build the tower without a strong foundation. My family is a big part of what keeps me grounded.
