Introduction
Gary Band is a transactional attorney who concentrates his practice in community development and finance. His primary focus is representing tax equity investors and syndicators in connection with projects that generate renewable energy tax credits.
My focus
Renewable energy
My work focuses on the financing of renewable energy projects that generate renewable energy tax credits. I have led teams of attorneys who have closed numerous transactions on behalf of tax equity investors and syndicators, including residential solar and battery storage portfolios, utility-scale solar projects, community solar projects, commercial and industrial solar projects, battery energy storage systems, and 6418 transfers. I have also represented our clients in the financing of small wind facilities.
Looking ahead
The renewable energy tax credit industry remains robust, despite the recent changes to the tax code in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Project development remains strong, and market participants have expanded through the credit transfer market. Transactions have become more complex with prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements, bonus credits, and the addition of “Prohibited Foreign Entity” restrictions in OBBBA. We believe the outlook for the industry is bright, as growth in renewables is needed to meet our country’s rising electricity demands.
