/My focus

Over my career, I have worked on analyzing and protecting intellectual property assets, including working closely with inventors and academic institutions as they transferred research projects to commercial applications. I have extensive experience in research and applications involving organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, catalysts, monomers, polymers, and composite materials.

I also conducted and managed research in a commercial laboratory. In addition, I am a co-inventor on several patents, so I understand the innovation process and can effectively work with inventors to help them protect their intellectual property.

Patent Prosecution

Particular areas I focus on include chemistry, materials science, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, organometallic chemistry, biochemistry, diagnostics, therapeutics, pharmaceuticals, small molecules, proteomics, disease biomarkers, drug delivery, nanotechnology, and diagnostic/imaging agents.

Mentorship

I am a mentor for the Venture Mentor Service San Antonio. VMS San Antonio is a joint collaboration between The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and The University of Texas Health San Antonio (UT Health SA). VMS San Antonio consists of San Antonio’s most respected and prestigious mentors that support and advise startups arising from the many entrepreneurship-related activities of UTSA and UT Health SA

/Representative experience

• Represent The Regents of the University of California in a groundbreaking patent enforcement campaign to protect its rights in a revolutionary new generation of light bulb technology known as filament LED that was invented by a Nobel laureate-led team at UC Santa Barbara. The campaign includes litigation before the US International Trade Commission, the US District Courts for the Central District of California and Eastern District of New York, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the US Patent and Trademark Office.
• Assist the University of Houston System, a public research university system in Texas, on a range of patent prosecution matters.
• Assist Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a nonprofit hospital and multi-specialty academic health science center, on a range of patent prosecution matters.
• Assist the University of Southern California (USC) on a range of patent prosecution matters.

I believe that strong protection of intellectual property rights will continue to encourage investment in the development of new technologies.
