Patent Agent
Introduction
Renjith Mathew is a patent agent in the firm's Intellectual Property (IP) practice group. He employs his extensive experience in clinical medicine and advanced life sciences research to assist clients in obtaining patent protection for their innovative work.
My focus
I draft and prosecute patent applications across a wide variety of life-science-related technologies. My domains of technical expertise include:
- Cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics, both in research and clinical applications
- Stem cell biology, including embryonic, adult, and induced potency stem cells, and aging and regenerative medicine
- Cell differentiation and organ formation, with a focus on vascular systems and pathologies
- Cancer mechanisms, therapeutics, and companion diagnostics
- Disease modeling, in vivo model systems, and applications
- Immunology and cell and immune therapies
- Microbiology, anti-microbial resistance, and synthetic biology
- Advanced light microscopy systems and image analysis
In my transition to IP, I have acquired a comprehensive knowledge of US patent law, complemented by a broad understanding of IP regulations across major global jurisdictions. My research career has spanned the US, Germany, and India and includes time as a tenured faculty at an acclaimed research institute in India.
PRIOR EXPERIENCE
Prior to joining Nixon Peabody, I served as a consultant at Capulus Therapeutics. I participated in a drug discovery and development program based on novel target identification and AI-guided small molecule inhibitor development to target critical treatment bottlenecks. In this role, I performed technical and competitive intelligence analysis for the cancer drug discovery program.
Notable achievements of my research career include identifying the function of the smallest subunit of mycobacterial RNA Polymerase, uncovering mechanisms of telomerase regulation in iPS cells, and discovering novel membrane transport-mediated mechanisms of cell scaling during differentiation and organ formation.
