    Introduction

Matt Netti focuses on employment counseling, representing employers in litigation and labor negotiations, and a wide variety of general labor and employment matters.

    Practice Areas

Labor, Employment, and BenefitsLabor & Employment Litigation

    My focus

    Employment Litigation

My practice is focused on a variety of litigation matters, including employment defense, class action defense, and general commercial litigation, in which I have experience representing clients with matters before administrative agencies and court proceedings. Much of my work involves representing employers defending against discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims. I am involved in all phases of litigation, from discovery and initial pleadings through dispositive motions.

    Employment Counseling

After working to gain an understanding of the unique complexities associated with each employer’s organization, I offer tailored advice and counsel to help my clients reach their goals. I help employers develop policies and proactive practices, ensure compliance with applicable laws, and assist in avoiding litigation altogether. My experience includes advising clients on various state and federal laws and regulations concerning equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and diversity initiatives.

    Labor Relations

I provide advice on labor disputes, collective bargaining agreements, and other matters regarding the National Labor Relations Board. My traditional labor experience involves advising employers on union organizing campaigns and assisting in labor negotiations.

    Higher Education

Previously serving as an attorney in the general counsel’s office of a higher education institution, I have experience working in all aspects of higher education law. I have worked on student affairs issues, employment matters, tenure decisions, and civil rights claims. I have experience updating student and faculty handbooks and general university policies based on a comprehensive compliance review. My work also consisted of advising on ongoing graduate-student union campaign efforts. Additionally, I have extensive experience in sports law, reviewing National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) policies and advising on name, image, and likeness (NIL) issues.

    Looking ahead

I’ve been following developments in labor and employment, including recent momentum in graduate-student union campaign efforts and pay transparency laws affecting job posting, interviewing, and hiring practices, so I can best advise employers on the current legal landscape.
