Sumeet Sharma has over 20 years of experience representing tax credit investors, syndicators, developers, lenders, and nonprofit organizations on finance, tax, real estate, corporate, and regulatory issues affecting affordable housing, community development, historic preservation, commercial real estate, and general business transactions nationwide.
I help clients structure and close complex financing transactions that use affordable housing tax credits and related financial and tax incentives. The financing is applied to affordable housing, mixed-income, and mixed-use developments across the country, metropolitan and rural areas alike. In doing so, I strive to find practical and innovative solutions to develop and operate successful projects and partnerships.
I also advise clients on community development and revitalization projects financed by new markets tax credits. I make sure my clients’ projects, which include office and retail, health clinics, charter schools, manufacturing centers, and industrial facilities, for example, close efficiently and smoothly.
Additionally, I counsel clients on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, from acquisitions, development, and leasing to financing, debt restructuring, and workout matters.
Outside the office, I enjoy speaking at national tax credit industry conferences, publishing articles on various community development issues, coaching a high school debate team, mentoring students through local school programs, and serving on boards for community service and philanthropic projects.
I believe that the dedicated and innovative business parties and service professionals in this industry will continue to work together to find ways to broaden the impact of community development activities in this dynamic business, legal, and political climate. I work with clients to identify opportunities for such partnerships.
