Jericho, NY. Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce that Timothy D. Sini, a former assistant United States attorney (AUSA), district attorney, and police commissioner, has joined the global law firm as a partner in its Litigation Department and Government Investigations & White-Collar Defense practice.

Tim’s practice, which will cover the New York City metropolitan area and Long Island, will involve representing entities and individuals in a diverse array of litigation matters, internal corporate and government investigations, and white-collar defense and crisis scenarios. In addition, he is a member of Nixon Peabody’s COVID-19 Response Team, which helps clients navigate challenges related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Previously, Tim served as an AUSA in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and as district attorney for Suffolk County, New York (Long Island), one of the 20 largest prosecutors’ offices in the nation. Prior to that, he was commissioner of the Suffolk County Police Department, the 11th largest police department in the United States.

“Tim brings a truly unique blend of experience across crisis management, trials and litigation, and compliance,” said Allan Cohen, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Long Island office. “His deep knowledge of how government agencies make decisions will be an enormous asset for our firm regionally as well as for our national Government Investigations & White-Collar Defense practice.”

At Nixon Peabody, Tim will work on a variety of matters involving government investigations or charges, including by agencies such as the Department of Justice, state attorneys general, and district attorneys, while also working on commercial litigation matters and crisis management situations. He has personally handled and supervised hundreds of complex investigations and prosecutions involving a wide range of crimes, including RICO, public corruption, environmental crime, fraud, financial crimes, and labor offenses, among others. Tim’s investigative and litigation experience includes matters that are multi-jurisdictional and international in scope.

Tim led internal investigations into two of the largest criminal justice agencies in the country that were hit by high-profile scandals and successfully developed and implemented corrective action plans. These unique experiences enable him to navigate crises on behalf of his clients and protect their interests by proactively identifying risks and providing objective assessments, as well as the likely response from government investigators and prosecutors.

“It is a complicated business environment, and this will be exacerbated by increased enforcement actions and investigations by both the federal government and the New York State Attorney General’s Office,” said Tim. “I look forward to helping clients navigate challenges by developing and implementing strategies to eliminate or mitigate damage to their reputations and businesses.”

Prior to serving as a federal prosecutor, Tim worked as a litigation associate in two Manhattan law firms and clerked for the Honorable William C. Conner, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York, and the Honorable Chester J. Straub, U.S. Court of Appeals Judge for the Second Circuit.

Tim earned his JD from Brooklyn Law School, magna cum laude, and his BA from American University, also magna cum laude. In addition, he received the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Executive Institute Certificate in Executive Leadership, Law Enforcement (2017), and the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government Leadership Decision Making Certificate, Executive Education (2017).
