By Kendal Tyre and Stacie Collier

Kendal Tyre and Stacie Collier, co-leaders of NP's DEI Strategic Services group, share insights on recent diversity, equity, and inclusion topics in the headlines.

We're discussing recent diversity, equity, and inclusion topics in the headlines. Today’s conversation includes a case challenging race based affirmative action and their impact on minority business enterprises (MBEs). We also share thoughts on mitigating legal risks in the face of uncertainty and challenges.

What is race based affirmative action?

Race based affirmative action refers to policies originally conceived to promote diversity and social equity by considering racial backgrounds as a supplementary element to traditional qualifications.

For federal contractors and subcontractors, affirmative action involves recruiting and advancing minorities, women, persons with disabilities, and covered veterans. These actions involve training programs, outreach efforts, and other positive steps, which should be integrated into written personnel policies.
