    Introduction

Steve Jones is a trusted advisor and experienced trial attorney for many premier companies, universities, and organizations. Steve leads the firm’s Labor & Employment Class Action Team, co-chairs the firm’s Wage & Hour Team, and is regularly called upon to defend “bet-the-company” high-stakes litigation. His experience includes defense of over 200 class actions and collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Equal Pay Act, and ERISA. His practice also includes extensive non-competition and trade secret litigation and defense of whistleblower, discrimination, and sexual harassment claims in state and federal courts and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Labor, and state human rights agencies. Steve has developed innovative auditing methodologies in wage-hour and EEO areas (including statistical pay equity analysis), thereby reducing or eliminating his clients’ exposure to class action litigation and EEOC systemic discrimination enforcement actions.

    /My focus

My mission, above all else, is to achieve my clients’ business objectives while pursuing excellence in the practice of law. I don’t just “represent” my clients; I partner with them. I believe clients are entitled to “no surprises.” Accordingly, I dedicate my practice to constant client contact, transparency, and accountability.

I understand that the most efficient way to resolve litigation is not always the most obvious. It is critical from the outset, therefore, to develop a defense strategy carefully calibrated to achieve trial and/or settlement advantage while always remaining attentive to my clients’ overall business objectives. It’s the foundation of any successful defense and my personal promise to clients.

    Community Leadership

Steve is very active in civic engagement and community leadership. He currently serves as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of the George Eastman Museum (the world’s oldest museum dedicated to photography and one of the world’s oldest and most extensive film archives). In 2022, Steve was elected as a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation by the New York Bar Board of Directors in recognition of outstanding professional achievement, dedication to the legal profession, and commitment to the organized bar. Steve previously served for six years in various board officer roles, including Vice Chairperson, Corporate Secretary, and Chairperson of the Governance Committee, for Volunteers of America, Upstate, NY (an organization dedicated to early childhood development, rapid rehousing, and homelessness prevention) and served for three years as President of the Board of Directors for Step by Step of Rochester (an organization that works with incarcerated women (and women who are at risk of incarceration) to help rebuild their lives through life history workshops). He also served for five years on the Judiciary Committee of the Monroe County Bar Association and served for five years as a mentor and counselor for the Law Explorers Program of Monroe County. Steve was also nominated for and received Board Leadership Certification from St. John Fisher University in 2017.
