Boston, MA. Ruth Mattson, a partner in Nixon Peabody’s Private Clients group, has authored Foreign Trusts Simply, a new book designed to help practitioners and clients better understand the complex legal, tax, and reporting issues that arise in connection with foreign trusts.
Ruth, a member of Nixon Peabody’s International Private Clients team, focuses their practice on advising on international estate planning and multinational estate administration matters and assisting individuals, families, and closely held businesses preserve their legacies and solve complex tax matters. Ruth works closely with clients and their advisors to develop tax-efficient, practical strategies tailored to complex personal, financial, and cross-border circumstances.
Foreign Trusts Simply, published by ABA Book Publishing, is intended to serve as a useful resource for estate planners, tax professionals, trustees, family offices, and individuals seeking a clearer understanding of the US tax treatment of cross-border trust planning.

Ruth earned a JD from Temple University School of Law, an LLM in Taxation from Boston University School of Law, and a BA from DePauw University. Ruth has been recognized since 2020 by Chambers: High Net Worth 2026 for Private Wealth Law. Ruth has lectured on estate planning, international information reporting, and withholding at Boston University School of Law’s Graduate Tax Program since 2015.
