Washington, DC. Law firm Nixon Peabody LLP has strengthened the regulatory capabilities of its Affordable Housing & Real Estate practice with the arrival of Joshua Gold, who joins the firm as counsel from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Josh spent 12 years at HUD, most recently serving as Managing Attorney of the agency’s Southwest Regional Office since 2021. He has deep experience in complex market-rate and affordable real estate transactions, including construction and permanent financing, deal structuring, public housing repositioning, asset management, distressed projects, and the disposition of multifamily and healthcare properties.
Josh is recognized nationally for his skills and thought leadership related to federally insured multifamily loans, rental subsidies through Section 8 and the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program, and layered financing arrangements. “Josh’s arrival continues our firm’s dominant presence in the HUD space, a core component of our practice,” said Deborah VanAmerongen, Nixon Peabody strategic policy advisor and leader of the firm’s Affordable Housing team. “His extensive knowledge, both nationally and regionally in Texas, is a major asset for our practice and clients. We continue building our presence in the state, with associate Taheera Randolph also joining our team recently.”
In addition, Nixon Peabody recently hired associate Isaac Markow, who joined the firm from HUD; Caroline Caulfield, who works with affordable housing developers in New Jersey and New York; and Nicholas Leon, who assists developers and housing authorities in creating and preserving affordable housing nationwide.
